An open reply to Emily, an intern (I’m guessing) at the Greater Green Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau, who sent in a note about ESPN’s “contest” to find the “real Titletown USA.”

Emily,

Thank you very much for your e-mail alerting me to ESPN’s search for “the real Titletown USA” and the online voting taking place. Unfortunately, though, I will have to decline your kind invitation to take part in the Worldwide Leader’s latest attempt at self-promotion because, to be quite frank, I do not need some over-priced, over-hyped cable sports channel to tell me where the “real” Titletown USA is.

Now I want to be clear that I hold no ill will towards you because I realize your are just doing your job to promote Wisconsin tourism and I truly appreciate your spirit and enthusiasm as a supporter of the great city of Green Bay. My contempt is directed soley at the filthy hacks in the marketing department at ESPN for devising this sham in the first place. There is a special place reserved in Hell for soulless individuals who would disrespect the home of the Green Bay Packers in this manner, turning a badge of honor earned through years of winning NFL championships (12 to be exact) into just another marketing ploy.

Titletown USA? There is one and only one, and it is and always shall be Green Bay, Wisconsin.
