The Morning After: Was It A Dream? » Brats & Beer

Had to get up early and check the news. Was I dreaming yesterday, or did the Packers really beat the Falcons 33-25? No, it really did happen. In deference to Michael Vick’s request last week, I won’t say anything negative about his performance. That was a very nice job of fumbling, Mike. OK, I shouldn’t gloat. It’s not like we’re in the playoffs or won a title or anything, but for a 1-7 team to upend a playoff caliber opponent on the road, that’s pretty huge.
This should be a big confidence builder for the entire team. The defense was excellent at containing Vick and Warrick Dunn and covering in the secondary. Hats off to Jim Bates. The offense, too, really came to life with outstanding performances by Donald Driver, Brett Favre, and Sam Gado. Now, there were some mistakes and Gado is still a raw talent, so there’ll be no annointing him the next Jim Taylor or anything. He needs to secure the football and find his lanes, but he improved on last week and I have no reason to think he won’t continue to get better throughout the season. If we can get Tony Fisher back in the lineup, I think the offense really starts to look like an intimidating unit again.
