Party Like It’s 2004: The Badgers Are Fifth In The Nation » Brats & Beer

The AP and coaches polls both came out today and both agree: The UW Badgers are the fifth best team in the country. These are some lofty heights; I hope no one gets a nosebleed.

I was thinking before the polls came out that Wisconsin might get bumped up to number six after Michigan fell to Appalachian State, but I was surprised that Texas got so heavily penalized for their opening game struggle against Arkansas State — more so that UW picked up those votes.

This is the first time the Wisconsin football team has been in the top 5 since the 2004 season when they had a nine-game winning streak going. Right after that, of course, the Badgers dropped their last two games and then lost the Outback Bowl to Georgia. So this puts a lot of pressure on coach Bielema and the boys to keep performing, and they have to travel to UNLV this Saturday where things sometimes tend to go all wonky. The Badgers can’t afford to stumble in Sin City or the voters will put them out like yesterday’s news.

On the other hand, it must be quite an honor for them to be the standard-bearers of the Big 10. The only other conference teams in the top 25 are Ohio State at #12 and Penn State at #14. Oh, and the Wolverines? Its LOL cats time for them.
