I don’t think that I’ve ever felt so depressed after a Packers victory. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad, thankful in fact, that Green Bay overcame the Seahawks 23-14 for their fourth and final victory this season, but there’s a lot of bitter sweetness surrounding this win. The crowd chanting, “One more year,” Sherman pulling Favre on the last play to get his standing ovation, it all seemed too much like the curtain call, the last roundup, The End.

To be sure, there are a lot of good arguments to be made in favor of a franchise-wide shakeup after ending the season 4-12 for the first time since 1991. I’ve made a few of those arguments here myself. But having reached that point, I’m not sure that I’m really ready for it to happen. And then there were the mysterious announcements afterwards: Brett Favre moved his post-game press conference to tomorrow, coach Sherman’s season wrap up was moved to Wednesday or Thursday. This might be quite the week for Packers fans.

If this is The End, then let’s get it over with quickly. I’m sure Packer Nation doesn’t want to be languishing in some kind of limbo land for months while the powers-that-be try to decide what they want to do. It’s kind of like taking off a band aid: the best way is to yank it off in one quick motion.
