The Eyes Of Texas Are Upon Iowa State » Brats & Beer

Last week I really believed the Cyclones could get it done against Iowa, and for the first half anyway they gave me hope and played like champs. If they hadn’t gone to sleep in the third quarter, who knows if maybe Iowa State could have won that game. This week, however, ISU goes on the road to play Texas, the seventh-ranked team in the nation and defending national champions, and while I agree with the surprisingly honest UT cheerleader there in the picture, I have to admit that maybe Iowa State will be a little overmatched in Austin.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still be rooting for my Clones to make a game of it. Bret Meyer is having a great season so far, completing 60% of his passes for 590 yards and three touchdowns for a rating of 134.3, while Stevie Hicks is averaging 4.5 yards per run and is ranked fifth in the conference. But those numbers aren’t going to mean much against a team that is #3 in the Big 12 in scoring, that is averaging 238 rushing yards per game, and that has allowed just 12 points a game. I mean Rice had a total of -12 yards rushing last week.

So yes I’ll be cheering for ISU, but I’m guessing the score will be lopsided by the time the marching band takes the field at Texas Memorial Stadium. Thankfully then I’ll be able to get on with the rest of my day.
