Let me preface this post by saying that last night’s game was just the second Wisconsin basketball game that I have watched in full this season (thank you very little, Big Ten Network), so I won’t pretend to have any deep insight into the inner workings of this year’s squad. I will say, though, that it was an excellent game and a damn fine win by the Badgers to take a lead in the conference standings.

Brian Butch hit some monster three-pointers last night, two in the first half and two more in the late going that just demoralized Michigan State. He definitely gets my nomination as all-around beastly player of the game. Michael Flowers also put on a heck of a show matched up on Drew Neitzel, who averages double digits but came away from the Kohl Center with just three points.

The Badgers are looking very much like a heavyweight fighter on the hardwood. If they can impose their will defensively and force the opponent to play their game, there aren’t many contests this team can’t win. It will be very interesting to see them matched up with the nation’s best in the NCAA tournament.
