Purple Jesus: The Second Helping » Brats & Beer

Just a week after setting the NFL single game rushing record, Adrian Peterson will be playing his first game at (cue John Facenda) historic Lambeau Field. The 72,000 Green & Gold fans should be in full throat Sunday afternoon, waving their G-Force towels in the air; I hope it scares the Purple Bejebus right out of him.

Seriously though, the Vikings are coming to Green Bay this weekend and, seriously, their starting quarterback is going to be either Brooks Bollinger, Kelly Holcomb or Koy Detmer. The Packers might as well just put 10 — heck make it 11 — men in the box, that should slow Peterson down to 150 yards on the day.

Actually, I don’t really care how many yards he rushes for, as long as none of them are in the end zone. The Green Bay defense doesn’t have to stop him cold, they just can’t let him get the home run. If that happens, it’s going to be a long, Ryan Longwell-filled day for the Riders of the Purple Sage. Brandon at Acme Packing Company has the right idea, I think: Line up serial penalty flag abuser Atari Bigby on the line and let him tee off on Peterson all day.

As for the Packer offense, look for more of the same spread-em-out quick-pass attack because there’s probably little hope Ryan Grant or Brandon Jackson is going to get past those tackles in the middle. In the first game at the Humpty Dome, Favre threw for 344 yards so he should be able to cut up that defense pretty well once again. I’m looking for Grant to touch the ball about 10 times at most.

It won’t come easy — none of them have yet — but the Packers should get the win this weekend and stay a step ahead of the Lions.
