More Media Fodder From Favre » Brats & Beer

Brace yourselves Packer Nation, because Brett Favre has been talking to the newspapers again.
I’m sure that the charity sports events that Favre hosts during the off-season help out some worthy people but it also seems like the charity case that gets the most out of them is the national sports media. A few years ago he used a softball event to admonish Javon Walker for holding out from camp. This time around he’s been airing out some laundry concerning the Randy Moss deal that didn’t happen. According to Packersnews.com, Favre told the Biloxi Sun Herald:
“I just want to win; maybe I see things the wrong way. I don’t want to ruffle any feathers and I want people to respect me. Sometimes I think it’s hard for them to let Brett go. They might think that we pay him a lot of money, but he still gives us the best chance to win. I’ve never been told that, but there are times when I wonder if I’m the odd man out here and they just don’t know how to tell me.”
That should keep all the dunderheads at ESPN busy for a few weeks. I can hear the back and forth now about how the franchise is disrespecting its veteran quarterback and how there’s bad blood now between Favre and Ted Thompson. Heck, Chris Mortensen will probably have “inside” information about Favre deciding to retire just before training camp. Who knows what kind of insanity these quotes will likely start.
Brett Favre is a great quarterback and competitor, but no one has ever accused him of being savvy with the media. When he talks to the press it’s like he’s thinking out loud, just free associating whatever is in his head. Last year in a rambling press conference he said he thought the squad was the most talented he’d been on and we all knew that wasn’t true; he was just trying to get players and fans motivated for the season because that’s what he does.
I’m sure this jumbled mess of words came tumbling out of his mouth because Favre is disappointed that the Packers were not able to sign Moss, but does it mean he’ll up and quit the team? Will there be a dark cloud over Green Bay when Favre reports to mini-camp this week? I doubt it. Next week after spending time with the players, I’m sure Favre will say we’re headed to the Super Bowl.
