J’accuse! Vikings Nabbed In Favre Caper » Brats & Beer

So Brett Favre pulls back from the brink of requesting reinstatement and now the Packers have accused Minnesota of tampering with their retired quarterback. This whole thing is starting to play out like a tense political thriller.

It did seem odd that this morning the Press-Gazette reported Favre and Bus Cook were ready to request reinstatement “sooner rather than later” according to “a source close to Favre,” and then a few hours later Cook is calling Chris Mortensen at ESPN to say there were no immediate plans to contact the commissioner. Now it is quite possible that the P-G just got the story wrong, but I wonder if there’s any connection.

The charges were revealed to the Vikings late last week, according to Jay Glazer at FOX Sports, so how long ago did the tampering take place? How long has Ted Thompson known about it? Maybe this is what he meant about “protecting Favre’s legacy” when talking to the press last Saturday. Perhaps it was meant as a signal to Favre that we have to goods and you better back down or it’s going to get ugly.

All I know is we all better stay tuned because this drama is just getting started.
