“You Packers suck!”

I guess it was inevitable with the Packers already embroiled in a very public divorce from its future Hall of Fame quarterback that everyone else would start to pile on. Not only is Brett Favre ranting and raving to ESPN about his situation, but now Ryan Grant’s agent is blasting the team for making an “insulting” contract offer. Is it too early to ask for a mulligan on the 2008 season?

Grant’s agent is complaining to the press about the offer Green Bay made Saturday, reportedly a six-year extension with a $1.75 million signing bonus that he calls an insult, and he tells Tom Silverstein that Grant is angry with the team. We don’t have all the details of the offer, but I have to agree with Aaron at Cheesehead TV that Herman has been a little too vocal in the press during this whole process, so I don’t know how much stock I put in this story. I would say that comparing Grant’s situation with Devin Hester’s in Chicago is a total smokescreen, though. Grant is a talented back who could be an important contributor to Green Bay’s offense, while Hester’s mutant speed is basically the only weapon the Bears have to score points.

Whether or not Grant has a legitimate beef, this isn’t the kind of story the Packers need out there right now, not with Favre ranting to Chris Mortensen — and you can bet Peter King got an earful of this as well — about how unfairly he’s being treated.

Just when you though it couldn’t get worse …
