Cyclones Fall To UNI Panthers » Brats & Beer

Sweet sons of Donnie Duncan, what is happening to the Iowa State Cyclones? The Gene Chizik era is starting to look less like a revival and more like a Jim Walden-inspired nightmare. The Clones got taken to woodshed by Northern Iowa last night 24-13; the defense got chewed up by UNI quarterback Eric Sanders (23 for 29, 180 yards, two touchdowns) while Bret Meyer through two interceptions.
I guess this is where we find out how good a coach Chizik really is. It would be easy for his winless football team to pack it in at this point and call it a season, but he’s got to find a way to keep them going and inspire them to win. That might mean a change in direction on defense or some roster changes on the offense, whatever it takes to keep the team together and playing hard through the toughest part of the schedule.
Of course it doesn’t help matters when the state’s Black & Gold propaganda broadsheet leading newspaper runs a dimwitted column that just repeats “oh and twelve” over and over again.
I’m not ready to throw in the towel on the Chizik era just yet, and I suspect neither are most Cyclones fans. But his job as ISU head coach just got a lot tougher.
