There’s a part of me that’s obviously happy for Seneca Wallace getting his big chance in the National Football League as the starting quarterback for the Seahawks; he was a great player for Iowa State and he finally gets a chance to put on a show for the NFL crowd. However, I’m also very concerned for his safety.
Seattle’s offense is missing some very important elements, namely running back Shaun Alexander and wide receiver Bobby Engram. Lacking a running game and with no one out there to throw to, Wallace is going to be a prime target for the Chiefs defense. Hopefully he still has that amazing mobility he had in college, he’ll need it.
As for the current ISU squad, what a disappointing day yesterday in Manahttan, Kansas. The Cyclones jumped out to a 10-0 lead early then got shut out for the final 48 minutes of the game. Kansas State put up 156 yards on the ground, came up with three turnovers, and dominated the final half of the game.
Injuries, notably to Todd Blythe and Stevie Hicks, obviously factored into the loss, but even with those players would ISU have stood a much better chance? It’s sad to say this is a debatable point. There’s really no way now that Iowa State is going to be playing in a bowl game this year, unless they someone wants to organize a post-season game between the Cyclones and the Drake Bulldogs.
