The regular season finale is upon us this weekend when the #25 Wisconsin Badgers make the trek to the Humpty Dome to play Minnesota. The Gophers are just looking pretty dreadful this year with an 0-7 record in the Big 10 and 1-10 overall. They lost to North Dakota State, for gosh sakes! I don’t expect the Gophers will give UW any problem at all. Prediction: the Badgers will win by a zillion points.
You still have to play the team on the schedule, though, so Wisconsin can’t go sleeping through this game. Plus, it’s a chance to finish the season strong and maybe impress some bowl representatives, which might be important depending on how the other conference games go Saturday.
Illinois plays Northwestern, a game the Illini are just as likely to win as they are to lose, while Penn State travels to play a Michigan State team coming off an “upset” over Purdue. If all goes according to plan, the Badgers could be tied with UI at 5-3 and ahead of the Nittany Lions, likely landing the Badgers a bowl-a-rama bid with the Outback or Alamo.
If for no other reason, the Badgers have to win this weekend to maintain Wisconsin’s football dominance over the Mini Peoples. A win will make it four straight for UW over Minnesota; the Packers have five consecutive victories against the Vikings. On Wisconsin!
And lest I forget, even though the patrons at the Wisconsin Sports Bar beat me to it, let’s all remember what happened the last time the Badgers went to Minnesota:
