The UW basketball team got its first verbal commitment the other day when Oshkosh West High senior Tim Jarmusz agreed to accept a scholarship for the 2007-08 season to play for Bo Ryan and the Badgers. Jarmusz was the second-leading scorer for the Wildcats last season as they went undefeated and captured the state tournament crown. The 6-6 prep star scored 13 points a game last season and averaged five boards. He has had offers from Loyola, UW-Milwaukee, and Northwestern, but his dream since he was a kid was to play for UW.

Jarmusz has already had a taste of national stardom, sort of. Teammate Andy Polka drained a three-quarters court buzzer beater back in January to put West over Kaukauna, and the highlight was featured on ESPN’s top plays of the day. In the clip, though, you could see Jarmusz losing his shorts in the celebration. Let’s hope the UW trainers can outfit him with a uni that fits.
