I was a little surprised, though not shocked, by the treatment of the Packers this week in the mainstream sports entertainment media. There was some comedy made of old man Brett Favre’s scramble for a touchdown and then his Lambeau Leap, all well and good, but mostly Green Bay’s victory was cited as evidence that Dennis Green should be fired, as if the AZ Cardinals were expected to win on the road against the Packers.

So to all the haters out there, I would just like to point out that at 3-4, Green Bay has a better record than 12 other teams in the league, including the world champion Pittsburgh Steelers. In fact, the Packers are just one win behind both Philadelphia and Carolina, a situation that could change this weekend as both the Eagles and the Panthers have a bye. I would suggest dusting off your old Brett Favre-as-comeback-kid columns for the upcoming weeks, because the Packers are coming together as a team and they are coming to play.

And speaking of respect, what is going on with the AP football poll this week? Wisconsin has just one loss (to No. 2 Michigan), puts on a great second-half performance and they’re still ranked No. 17 in the nation? Behind Boise State and Rutgers? I didn’t expect the Badgers to leap into the Top 10 or anything, but surely they’re better than the Potato Mashers and the Garden State Warriors. I’m just saying there better be a little more reward after UW beats Penn State this week.
