When The Favre Hits The Fan » Brats & Beer

Waiting for the shit to hit the fans

I’m still working my way though this ennui over how the Brett Favre affair has gone down, and it won’t be helped at all by seeing him suit up in another team’s uniform, especially those loathsome Buccaneers. But one thing that might shake me out of my funk and get my blood boiling will be when Favre gives his big tell-all interview to Chris Mortensen. (Or will it be Peter King? Ed Werder? Maybe Greta again.)

As noted in a post at packergeeks, the Packers don’t have Ari Fleischer on retainer to deal with the current mess, he was hired to deal with the shitstorm that’s about to come. Soon enough you know Favre is going to start talking and airing out all the dirty laundry from his 16 years in Green Bay, how it was all picture perfect for him right up to the point that Ted Thompson arrived. And then — ka-blamo! — everything went to hell.

  • 4-12 season in 2005: all Ted’s fault
  • 8-8 season in 2006: rookie head coach
  • 13-3 season in 2007: coulda won the Super Bowl with Randy Moss
  • Retirement in 2008: he forced me into it
  • Change of heart in March: it didn’t go down like that
  • Reinstatement: they all lied to me!

It’ll be quite a performance, I’m sure, and then the Green Bay spin machine will fire back and that’ll probably piss off Favre even more. It might be more than a few years before he’ll be willing to come back to Lambeau Field to have his number retired. Good thing there’s a five-year gap before he’s elagable to be on the Hall of Fame ballot; by then maybe he’ll have cooled off enough to go into the Hall as a Packer.
