The winter hours creep by so slowly when there’s no football to obsess about. Has it really been a week since the last time I wrote anything on this blog? Not wanting it to look completely dormant I suppose I should post something here, so let’s review the last week’s news, shall we? (Yes, we shall.)
Mike McCarthy coached the NFC side to a 42-30 victory in the Pro Bowl over the weekend. I tuned in for one play. It was early in the fourth quarter and the score was 32-30. That was about all I needed to know that I wasn’t missing much.
ESPN’s KC Joyner listed Donald Driver as one of the most overrated players in the NFL, which just goes to show how little KC Joyner knows about anything.
The Badgers defeated Indiana on the road thanks to a last second three-pointer by Brian Butch. Living here in Texas and having Time Warner Cable, I of course don’t get the Big Ten Network so most of the college basketball season has been off limits to me. TWC and BTN, feel my wrath.
Former Packer lineman extraordinaire Mike Wahle was released by Carolina this week and then quickly signed by the Seattle Seahawks. It sounds like Ted Thompson barely had time to pick up the phone before the ‘Hawks swooped in. Considering the Panthers cut him due to his high salary cap number, I’m guessing he got a pretty good deal in Seattle.
Green Bay hired Russ Ball to replace salary cap guru Andrew Brandt. Ball has six seasons experience as cap manager with the New Orleans Saints, having started his career as an assistant coach with the Kansas City Chiefs. So that’s one thing off TT’s to do list.
And finally, Brett Favre did not announce this week whether he would retire from football or return for another season with the Packers. No big surprise there. We may hear something in the next week or two — but I’m not holding my breath
