The Pre-Turkey Cheers And Jeers » Brats & Beer

Cheers to the Wisconsin Badger football team for taking care of their business against Buffalo and closing out the season with an 11-1 record. They also got a bump in both the polls and the bowl standings, rising to #10 in the AP and #8 in the BCS. Jeers, though for rules that will keep UW out of a BCS bowl no matter how highly ranked they are.

Cheers for the Iowa State football team for beating Missouri 21-16 on Saturday. Jeers though for waiting until the final game of the season to defeat a conference opponent. Three big cheers for outgoing head coach Dan McCarney: Coach Mac did a lot during his tenure to legitimize ISU football, and that influence will be missed.

Very loud jeers for the Green Bay Packers for being shut out by the Patriots yesterday. What a terrible, pathetic, and embarrassing performance that was: 120 yards of offense, just 1-13 on third downs and four sacks allowed, one of which knocked Favre out of the game. The Packers were completely outplayed in every phase of the game.

Cheers, though, for Miami and Arizona for defeating the Vikings and the Lions, respectively, and helping the Packers hold on to second place in the division. The Dolphins scored touchdowns on two turnovers in the fourth quarter to put Minnesota away 24-20, while the Cardinals just outplayed Detroit for a 17-10 win.

Cheers for coffee, and lots of it, as I stayed up all night Saturday trying to order a Nintendo Wii game console. (Yes, I’m a big geek, but at least I wasn’t a cold geek waiting in an actual line overnight someplace.) Circuit City came through finally and should be delivering it tomorrow, if all goes according to plan.

And finally, big cheers for a short work week and my second-favoritest holiday of all, Thanksgiving. Big food and football, parades and pie, that’s what makes America great, people. I can’t wait.
