Our long, cold night of waiting is over. The warrior king has returned.
Finally, a decision from Brett Favre that he’ll return for another season with Green Bay, and Packer Nation rejoices. And breathes a little easier. I think most fans expected him to come back, so the news isn’t really shocking, but it is a relief to know for sure that the offense at least will be in capable hands for another year.
Of course, the haters out there beyond the boarders of our fair land have to get in some pot shots, like the jokers at Kissing Suzy Kolber with their Monty Python-inspired telling of the news. (Actually, that one is pretty amusing, but as a fan I have to be incensed, right?) My advice is that everyone better just prepare themselves now for more slobbering tribute to No. 4 from John Madden, Joe Theismann, Troy Aikman and anybody else in a broadcasting booth, because this year it could be even worse, especially if the Packers make into the playoffs.
Speaking of playoffs, I finally have a solution to the quandary of who to root for tomorrow in the Super Bowl. I’m just going to do what I do every Sunday of the NFL season: I’ll be rooting for the Packers. Sure, they aren’t playing, but I can still root for them in absentia, can’t I? I think I can. I’ll be wearing my Packer sweater and making Brett Favre’s chili recipe for our big Super Bowl party and rooting for Green Bay to be playing in the championship next year. That’s just the way I roll.
