Here’s something I haven’t felt in a very long time: Total happiness, joy, and satisfaction with the Green Bay Packers. It’s kinda weird, but after yesterday’s nearly flawless performance and total domination of the Vikings, I can’t think of anything really to criticize.
There were a couple pre-snap penalties on the offensive line, but the team had just four penalties total for the game. Considering they had flags numbering in the double digits the previous two games, you can’t argue with the improvement there.
Brett Favre did look a little off at times, especially early in the game. And then there was the touchdown pass to Ruvell Martin that should have been picked off. Even #4 himself said in the post-game press conference that it was a bad decision and a poor throw. But the way things were going for the Packers, it’s little wonder that the ball got tipped right into Martin’s hands. (Double bonus points for Darren Sharper being one of the two Prairie Purples who couldn’t come down with the ball.)
I could complain about FOX switching away from the game in the third quarter to show the Redskins and Eagles. It was the third quarter, are you kidding me? We shouldn’t be punished just because the team is playing well. On the other hand, it almost seems like a badge of honor — the Packers are that good and the Vikings were that bad that even FOX decided the game was over at that point. What was even funnier, we were listening to the radio call while watching the game and Wayne Larrivee had just declared “the dagger” so I’m thinking FOX was monitoring WTMJ.
We certainly can’t be disappointed with the way the NFC North is shaping up, either. The Lions lost to Arizona yesterday opening a two game gap, the stupid Bears won but are still a non-factor at 4-5 and Minnesota is all alone at the bottom and completely adrift at sea. It’s still a tight race, though, and those double Thursday games in Detroit and Dallas are going to be huge. The NFL Network sure hit a home run when they scheduled the Cowboys and Packers; looks like we’ll be heading out to our favorite watering hole to see that one. (Thanks a lot, Time Warner.)
