It sounds like newly-released safety Mark Roman might be headed for San Francisco. Niners site 49ersnews.com reports that SF head coach Mike Nolan appears interested in signing the disgruntled former Packer, but they’re still doing their “homework” as negotiations take place. I imagine that’s subtle code for “How little can we pay a guy who had just two interceptions in two years as a starter.”

The big news from Packers camp, of course, is that A.J. Hawk officially became Brown County’s newest millionaire yesterday after signing a six-year $37.5 million contract. According to the Journal Sentinel, the deal includes a $1.9 million bonus upfront and another $11.8 million in bonus money due next year. Let’s all hope he earns that money and that opposing quarterbacks are the ones paying the price.

In other camp news, the Packers passing game is getting off to a rough start. Chris Havel at the Press-Gazette says most of the receiving corps reported to camp with a case of the drops, all except for Driver of course. Rookie Greg Jennings also appears to be doing well, which is great, but Robert Ferguson and Marc Boerigter are two of the names Havel calls out for repeatedly dropping passes, which is not good news. Green Bay needs a decent slot receiver to be successful and Boerigter was supposed to be that guy. As for Ferggie, who was decent in the slot a couple years ago, well, maybe Ted Thompson can fill the fourth receiver spot through a trade.
