In a sign that the dearth of football news will lead Packer bloggers to post on anything, packergeeks recently opined on the universal battle for control of the television remote and the consequences of losing that all-important struggle. Facing a similar situation last night — Mrs. BratsNBeerGuy decided she wanted to watch the movie Enchanted — I chose to watch hockey in the other room and was treated to a great performance by Madison native Phil Kessel.

A first round pick in the NHL draft back in 2006, Kessel scored his second and third goals of the playoffs to help the Bruins to a 5-4 win over the Montreal Canadiens. His first score came early in the second period, which tied the game at 1-1. His other goal put Boston up 4-3 with 14 minutes to play, setting the stage for Marco Sturm to get the game winner with 2:37 remaining.

Kessel had been benched for three games of the series because Bruins head caoch, Claude Julien, didn’t think he was playing up to his potential in Game 1. Apparently the tough love worked.

With the series tied at three apiece, Boston travels to Montreal for the deciding Game 7 tomorrow night. I’ve been rooting for Montreal in the series (they were the last Canadian team to win the cup back in 1993) but if the Bruins win it’ll be great to see Kessel get to move on to the next round of the playoffs.
