As predicted here (okay, not really predicted, but hoped for), the Denver Broncos overcame New England in their AFC Division playoff game 27-13 and brought an end to the Patriots’ quest for a third consecutive NFL championship. The loss by the Pats secures for another three years Green Bay’s distinction as the only team to win three straight titles, a feat the Packers have achieved twice in its history. It was a tough loss for New England, who made uncharacteristic mistakes against a very talented defense. Tom Brady threw two interceptions while the team gave up three fumbles. We’ll have to wait for tomorrow to see who the Broncos will face in the AFC Championship, the Colts or Steelers.
Congrats also to Mike Holmgren and his Seattle Seahawks for a well-executed game against the Redskins. Playing for most of the game without MVP running back Shawn Alexander, Matt Hasselbeck played a solid game throwing for 215 yards and a touchdown. Washington did play pretty well on defense but faltered once again on offense. Note to Joe Gibbs: it might be time to retire Mark Brunell and find a real quarterback.
