First NFC Championship berth in a decade? Yes, the dream season rolls on with an absolutely dominating victory over Seattle yesterday in Green Bay. But that dream started out in nightmarish fashion with two quick turnovers and a 14-0 deficit in the first four minutes of the game.

After Ryan Grant fumbled twice and spotted Seattle a two-touchdown lead, I seriously thought this was the beginning of the end, the final collapse we all feared might happen with such a young and inexperienced team in the playoffs. But give all the credit in the world to Mike McCarthy for keeping his cool during his first post-season game. The offense went back out and with methodical precision scored 42 points on six consecutive drives.

And how about that Ryan Grant? Instead of packing it in, he pulled it together and shredded the Seahawks for 201 yards and three touchdowns. And what a great person he must be that afterwards in every interview he started by thanking and giving credit to the offensive line players and coach McCarthy for believing in him and having confidence that they would turn it around. Talk about Packer People.

Brett Favre, too, had a brilliant day compiling a quarterback rating of 137.6. His throws were crisp and on target, he wasn’t forcing anything even when they were behind in the game. And how about his stumbling underhanded toss to Donald Lee for a first down late in the second quarter? Classic Favre improvisation.

Of course we’re not talking about any of this without some very good play up front by the offensive line, which manhandled that Seattle defense everyone said was so good. Give a lot of credit to Bubba Franks who only had one catch in the game but did a great job blocking on both running plays and in pass protection.

So we’ll wait and see the outcome of the other NFC divisional game later this afternoon. The Packers will either be traveling to Dallas for the second time this season or the Giants will be coming to Green Bay for a rematch of their Week 2 game. Either way the Packers have a very good shot of getting back into the Super Bowl, especially with the momentum of this win over Seattle.
