Cheesehead TV has the latest rumor (via Pro Football Talk) that Brett Favre might finally end his bid to come out of retirement (from unnamed sources so who knows?), but there is at least some retirement news today that we can all rally around: Marco Rivera is calling it quits and retiring as a Green Bay Packer.
Rivera played nine seasons in Green Bay, the last seven as starting guard until he was released in 2004. He racked up an impressive 106 consecutive starts including playoff games, and was selected to the Pro Bowl three times.
From the official statement: “To retire as a Packer in my book is the greatest thing you can say as a football player in the NFL. It’s an honor and a privilege to retire and become a member of the Packers alumni with all the great players I played with and those that came before me.”
A class act through and through, Marco Rivera will be missed in the National Football League.
