There is a part of me that wants to flip the bird to 2005 and say, “Good riddance,” but another part of me thinks we should get a do-over. I’m pretty sure that if we gave it a second chance, 2005 could turn out okay. But I suppose that’s not likely to happen, so we’ll have to trudge through the darkness and make the best of it in 2006. And as if 2005 wasn’t bad enough, we have to endure an extra second of it tonight at 7pm EST because the Earth’s rotation is slowing down. That pesky conservation of energy that gets in the way all time. I’d suggest holding off on the leap second until next year. Who knows, maybe 2006 will be a wonderful year for everyone and we’ll really want to enjoy it for an extra second. Damn International Bureau of Weights and Measures. I’m sure this is all part of some kind of foreign plot.
