No Divas Please » Brats & Beer

I hate to take issue once again with the SportsBubbler’s Gridiron Girl, especially after her post on the Lingerie Football League, but, well, I have to take issue with her latest entry entitled “Green Bay needs a Diva!” Her point?
I just feel like we need someone who is exciting to watch, and who can get the team AND the fans revved up out there! … Green Bay needs to have a “hometown kind of guy,” the kind of player that you can idolize on the field, yet still picture yourself grabbing a beer with after the game.
And who out there qualifies as a “diva” in her estimation? Brett Favre, Terrell Owens, Kobe Bryant … and Sean Avery? The first three, yes, total divas who can also make game-changing plays, but Avery is just a rock-headed goon. Favre, T.O., and Kobe are all admired for their talents, Avery is reviled throughout the league. Avery is no “diva,” just a self centered ass.
But beyond my difference of opinion with the Gridiron Girl on the diva-esqueness of one Sean Avery, if you want exciting players who can get things going, the Packers are loaded with them. There’s Double D, Greg Jennings, and A.J. Hawk, just to name a few. Cullen Jenkins had some great plays against the Cowboys that got me jumping out of my seat. And what about Aaron Rodgers? He’s pretty exciting to watch, I’d say, and he’s only getting better.
Green Bay might have a blue collar roster, but it’s a blue collar town, no? The team is stocked with talent and they get their work done on the field. Let’s leave the “divas” to Dallas and Los Angeles where they need SportsCenter celebrities to sell tickets.
