The Packers official web site unveiled a new look last night, and I can’t say I’m too big of a fan. Most of the redesign work focused on the top of the page, replacing the football-brown “PACKERS.com” banner image with a navigation menu surrounding a simple green banner depicting three Super Bowl trophies. They also made room at the very top of the page for a banner ad.

I’ve had my issues with the previous design (for example, I never liked the fact that it proclaimed the Packers were established in 1921, when in fact the team was formed in 1919), but I did like the simple stencile lettering on the header and the rotating images depicting past and present players. Now the site header looks a little too generic to me. Hopefully the marketing department will continue to work on this through the pre-season.
