Meet The Bizzaro Packers » Brats & Beer

We all know the legend of the Green Bay Packers and cold-weather football: The Ice Bowl, Brett Favre’s winning record when the temperature is below freezing, the advantage of playing on the Frozen Tundra in January. Yesterday at Soldier Field, someone replaced that team with the Bizzaro Packers.

Bottom line, cold or not, Green Bay played miserably and got embarrassed by a sub-par team in a game carried throughout much of the country. It was a three-hour long Football Follies highlight reel full of blocked punts, fumbled snaps, and off-target passes. FOX should have played clips of Vince Lombardi screaming, “What the hell is going on out there?” in between plays.

Maybe it was the cold. Mike McCarthy opted to practice the team indoors all week because he thought they could get more accomplished, though the way they played it didn’t look like the Packers had practiced at all. Maybe it was a young team distracted by the hype surrounding their playoff run. Whatever the reason, they have three weeks to get it sorted out and cleaned up.

It is Christmas Eve and a time for feasting and celebrating, so for the next couple days I’ll just focus on the fact that Green Bay is still 12-3 and have a bye in the first round. The hard work of putting this loss in the past starts on Wednesday, so until then Merry Christmas to all and to all a happy holiday.
