Bill could get a trade deal done.
Team president Mark Murphy boarding a private jet for Hattiesburg in the dead of night? I doubt the action at Mugshots is worth a three hour flight, so my guess is he’s heading up a peace delegation to smooth things out with our soon-to-be formerly retired quarterback. Chris Mortensen was reporting earlier tonight on ESPN that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell wants Murphy involved as a mediator in the process to keep things from blowing up completely, and apparently that means a midnight run to Mississippi.
What kind of arrangement they’ll hammer out remains to be seen, but I would think that foremost on Murphy’s list is some kind of deal to keep Favre away from camp for as long as possible. Maybe he’s headed down there with a list of potential trading partners or just a briefcase full of money. If I were in his shoes (and I can say this is one situation where I’m glad I am not president and CEO of the Green Bay Packers) I would be taking some backup with me, like Bob Harlan or Ron Wolf, someone Favre knows and trusts and will listen to. Maybe Mike Holmgren.
If Murphy is able to broker a peace deal between No. 4 and Packer Nation, I think we should nominate him for a Nobel prize.
