Kobayashi Is A Brat Eating Machine » Brats & Beer

If you missed it on ESPN, Takeru Kobayashi won the Johnsonville bratwurst eating contest today at Brat Days in Sheboygan, consuming a world record 58 brats in 10 minutes. Fifty eight bratwursts? Holy crap. That’s like 15 pounds of food, for crying out loud. Two brats in a sitting is usually enough for me, though I’ve been known to eat three or four over the span of several hours, which usually leaves me in a semi-catatonic state. I can’t imagine how bad this guy must feel.
I really don’t get competative eating and I’m not sure that it’s really a sport. Yes, competitive eaters train and win titles and such, but is stuffing your pie hole really in the same league as football and baseball? Snarfing down sixty brats is impressive, yes, but I just don’t think it’s on par with running a four-minute mile or winning a tennis tournament. Crazy is what it is.
