ISU fans can walk tall today now that their Cyclones are Rainbow Classic champions. Okay, maybe it’s not that big of a deal, but it’s something. Iowa State defeated Colorado State 87-80 in the tourney final last night (or very early this morning, depending on how you look at it), with Stinson leading the team with 22 points. The Cyclones took command early with a 22-4 run in the first eight minutes of the game and held a 43-31 lead at the half. The Rams were able to narrow the gap to eight points in the second half but got no closer. Including Stinson, six ISU players hit double digits in the game: Clark and Hubalek both scored 15, Carr had 12, Blalock added 11, and Ross Marsden scored 10 points. The title victory advances ISU’s record to 9-3 on the season. The Cyclones host Tennessee State on Wednesday night before opening the Big 12 season Jan. 7 at home against Kansas State.
