In A Word: Relieved » Brats & Beer

It is slowly sinking in that the past four or five weeks of uncertainty and unrest are finally coming to a close. Brett Favre is being traded to the New York Jets and we can get back to concentrating on Packers football without the distraction of this off-the-field drama. Am I happy that No. 4 will now be in green and white instead of Green & Gold? Hardly. More than anything there is just a great sense of relief that this is finally over.

As we try to put this whole affair behind us, I would suggest taking to heart a few simple rules of conduct proposed by Winks at The Bucky Channel. (Seriously, no more booing Aaron Rodgers for simply being on the field; you want to express your displeasure, call Mark Murphy at his office.) For me personally, I am taking a vow to try and live a Favre-free lifestyle. News about the man will be unavoidable, of course, but I am not going to seek out every story and watch every highlight. A moratorium on writing about Favre is also in order, though I’ll probably break that vow in about five minutes when this story takes yet another twist.

I’m not saying that Favre is dead to me or anything like that, but I just need to make a clean break. Like with any relationship that ends, it’s not healthy to dwell on the past or obsess over what that other person is doing right now. The memories and admiration for what Favre did in Green Bay will always be there, but we need a fresh start with a clean slate.

The new season is about to start, so go you Packers, go.
