I Bet The Huber Wake Was Quite A Bash » Brats & Beer
Posted on February 29, 2008
Since it is Friday afternoon I figured it’s a good time to post something about beer, even if it is old news.
I discovered while updating the layout of the site and testing links that the Huber Brewery in Monroe, Wisconsin, is no longer. The brewery and its brands were all purchased in 2006 by Ravinder Minhas, a Canadian who runs Mountain Crest Brewing in Calgary. Yup, I just flat out missed that one.
Anyway, the brewery in Monroe is still there and is still in operation, but now it is called Minhas Craft Brewery and makes Mountain Crest Beer under contract, as well as the old labels of Huber and Rhinelander. Meanwhile, Minhas has set up a separate company called Berghoff Brewing Co. to market Berghoff beer, though the brew will still be made under contract in Monroe.
(Anyone out there drinking Huber or Berghoff? Any change in the price or the taste?)
It’s a little sad that the Huber name is gone from the brewery considering The Joseph Huber Brewing Co. was started as the Blumer Brewery in 1845 — before Wisconsin was even a state. But it is good to know that Huber and Berghoff are still being made in Monroe.
