The Iowa State Cyclones defeated Northwestern State last night 81-77 in double OT to advance in the Rainbow Classic Tourney thanks in part to a point mistakenly awarded to ISU in the second half. The early Christmas gift came when Curtis Stinson hit one of two free throws but was given credit for both. The teams were tied 62-62 at the end of regulation and each scored nine in the first overtime period. Tasheed Carr scored two free throws with 1:18 left in the second overtime to break a 77-77 tie and lift the Cyclones to victory. Blalock and Stinson led Iowa State with 22 points each, Carr finished with 13 and nine boards.
The ‘Clones play Colorado State tonight for the tournament championship. The Rams defeated the hosting Rainbow Warriors 67-61, snapping Hawaii’s four-year streak of winning its winter tourney.
