Double Disappointment For Wisconsin » Brats & Beer

As if Wisconsinites didn’t have enough to feel glum about right now, yesterday was a bad day for the Dairyland.

First, the UW men’s basketball team fell to Purdue on the road 60-56 in a tight game that came right down to the final play. Trailing by two with 10 seconds to play, Michael Flowers drove to the basket but had his shot blocked by Robbie Hummel, who was then fouled and made two free throws for the final score. I haven’t seen a replay yet but it sounds like the refs maybe could have given Flowers a call and sent him to the line. (Badgercentric has a good wrap-up of the game.)

But then to add insult to injury, Miss Wisconsin lost the Miss America contest last night. Christina Thompson from Madison made it to the final eight contestants (which my wife says has to be the best pageant performance ever for Wisconsin) but Miss Michigan, Kristen Haglund, took the crown.

Bah! It must’ve been rigged.

At least the UW men’s hockey team came out on top in the weekend border battle series with Minnesota. The Badgers won Friday night 3-1 and then held on for a 2-2 tie last night at the Kohl Center. UW is now in a tie for fourth place in the WCHA with Minnesota-Duluth.
