Cyclone Nation Gets Ready To Cheer » Brats & Beer

Strike up the marching band because college football gets underway this weekend, and the mighty Iowa State Cyclones open the season tonight at home against the Toledo Mudhens, er, Rockets. Actually, I shouldn’t kid because this should be a challenging game for the Cardinal & Gold; Toledo topped the MAC last year and defeated UTEP in the GMAC Bowl. 16 starters from that squad are back and ready to play, so the ‘Clones better bring the A game tonight.
I’m not really sure why in the world Coach McCarney would schedule Toledo for the opener. Shouldn’t we be playing someone like Northwest Montana State School of Art for Wayward Girls just to get off on the right foot? I guess he has high hopes for the 2006 squad and wants to really test them right out of the gate. At least we have some tested talent of our own back in the lineup: Bret Meyer returns as quarterback, Stevie Hicks is back to carry the load at tailback, Austin Flynn and Todd Blythe are ready to make plays, and Brent Curvey will be chasing down more quarterbacks. I think it should be a pretty damn good game. Too bad I won’t actually see it, but thanks to Yahoo! Sports I can at least listen to the coverage.
