Comedy Of Errors Leaves Them Laughing At Lambeau » Brats & Beer

According to the NFL.com site, the Packers were supposed to play the Lions today, but listening to the game I could have sworn it was The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight vs. The Keystone Kops. Neither Detroit nor Green Bay played well enough to deserve the win, but the Packers did put together a nice drive at the end to seal the deal.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m certainly glad the Green & Gold carried the day but what a frustrating afternoon with four turnovers and so many opportunities left blowing in the Lambeau wind. Brett Favre had a simply dreadful game with three picks and just 174 yards passing, so it wasn’t too surprising that his post-game press conference actully sounded like the Packers lost the game.

Thank goodness the defense really came to play today. Both Woodson and Harris came up with interceptions, the defensive line got six sacks, and they held Detroit to just 142 total yards. Yes, it came against a suck-ass Lions team, but against anyone that’s a pretty amazing performance.

The offense for all the trouble they had today should take something away from that final drive. It was a struggle all day on the ground, but the system finally started to yield some yards late in the game. That last drive was a bit of a blast from the past, running for five, 11, and 10 yards before Morency ripped off that 21-yard run for the touchdown. That’s what they need to do earlier and more often to win the last two games this year and more games next season.

So now the Packers are 6-8 and incredibly in the hunt for a wild card playoff spot. The scenario reads like a John le Carre novel but the chance is there if Green Bay can win their last two games of the season. I’ll be happy enough if they can get the sweep over Minnesota with a win at home this Thursday.
