Some interesting names are being bandied about as a possible replacement for Jim Bates as defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers. The Journal Sentinel devotes quite a bit of ink today to former Texans head coach Dom Capers, who was DC at Pittsburgh from 1992-94 and then went to Jacksonville for two seasons in […]

Looks like Mike McCarthy will get to choose his own defensive coordinator. At a press conference today, the Packers announced Jim Bates’ decision to leave Green Bay rather than stay on McCarthy’s staff. Oddly, Bates himself appeared at the press conference to explain it was his decision, which shows how popular Bates was after just […]
What is it with big city coastal types singling out the Green Bay Packers on race issues? At the end of the 1999 season everyone jumped up to proclaim that the team fired Ray Rhodes because he’s black, and now today The San Jose Mercury News publishes a veiled indictment of the Packers for hiring […]

It looks like new head coach Mike McCarthy is set to hire Jeff Jagodzinski as his offensive coordinator. There’s been no official word yet from 1265 Lombardi Ave., but the Journal Sentinel sounds pretty sure of the news and ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting it (so it must be true). Jagodzinski was tight ends coach […]

Yesterday the Green Bay Packers fired six coaches from the Sherman administration, which is a damn, crying shame because now I’m going to have to learn all new names to yell at the TV. The big names let go included offensive coordinator Tom Rossley, offensive line coach Larry Beightol, and special teams coach John Bonamego. […]

I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that Mike McCarthy is going to be the 14th head coach of the Green Bay Packers. I mean, how out of the universe of people available did Ted Thompson decide he was the guy? When the search for a new coach began, McCarthy was an […]

More breaking news from the Press-Gazette says San Francisco offensive coordinator Mike McCarthy will become the 14th head coach of the Green Bay Packers. The Journal Sentinel says McCarthy and his agent, Gary O’Hagan, are working on hammering out a deal tonight.
What do we know about McCarthy? He was QB coach at Green Bay under […]
Breaking news from the Press-Gazette says Jim Bates is no longer a candidate for the head coaching position in Green Bay. The paper reports that the Packers general manager informed Bates of his decision this evening, which might mean that we’ll see white smoke issuing forth from the chimney at 1265 Lombardi Ave. in the […]

Brad Childress might be out of the running, but Ted Thompson has plenty of other candidates to consider for the head coaching position in Green Bay. The Press-Gazette reports that Dallas assistant Sean Payton interviewed with the Packers on Thursday and Cleveland offensive coordinator Maurice Carthon was in town for an interview yesterday. Other NFL […]

I gotta hand it to old T. Thompson, he’s a crafty one. By now I’m sure you’ve heard the news that the Packers have set up an interview with Wade Phillips, and I’m sure you said to yourself, “Bum Phillips? I thought he retired.” But then someone else probably came along and said, “No, not […]
