It’s hard to be hopefull when your team is 1-7 and relying on backups and who-dats in key positions, but that’s what we Packers fans do, right? Never give up. So, today’s matchup with the Falcons will be a big challenge, no doubt. Atlanta is playing well and have big playoff aspirations now that the Eagles seem to be melting away and they have a big weapon in Michael Vick. But if the defense remains focused and plays their assignments, I think they could have a good day. Vick is a mediocre passer at best, so Al Harris and Ahmad Carol will have chances to make big plays. The front four and the linebackers have been pretty stout against the run and I think they’ll really want to show former coordinator Ed Donatell that they have improved under the coaching of Jim Bates.
On offense, though, the hurddles are bigger. Walt Williams joined the growing list of casualties after suffering a hamstring injury in practice, leaving just Samkon Gado and ReShard Lee at running back. Atlanta’s only so-so against the run (118 yards/game) so this could be a chance for Gado really strut his stuff. Donald Driver and Antonio Chatman will need to play more focused and not drop passes because Falcons, who have have 24 sacks to their credit, are coming after Favre when he drops back. Bubba Franks finally looks healthy and should provide some support in both the running and passing games.
So cross your fingers and say your Hail Mary’s. The Packers will need all the help they can get in this one.
