Brett Favre Retires: Oh No He Didn’t » Brats & Beer
Posted on February 28, 2008
The officials at the Official Packers web site sent a jolt of panic through Packer Nation today when a link went live showing a mock-up page reporting “Favre to retire.” The news went blasting around the Interwebs and according to one commenter on the Journal Sentinel blog, it was even reported on the radio in Minneapolis. (You know Sven and Ole were dancing for joy when they heard that.)
Fortunately — or unfortunately for Vikings fans — it all turned out to be a big mistake. Bus Cook, Favre’s agent, said no decision has been made, the head of PR for the Packers said the page was inadvertently activated, and the link was removed. So rest easy and sleep tight, Packer fans. Number Four isn’t gone yet.
At least if Favre were to announce his retirement soon, there’s a free agent on the market to replace him: David Carr.
Ba-dum bum! Thank you and tip your waitress.
Lost in all the commotion, though, was some real news: Ted Thompson signed a free agent. Offensive tackle Joe Toledo was with the Dolphins the last two years, though he’s been out of action nearly that entire time, first with a knee injury in his rookie season and then a foot injury that landed him on the IR list last year. Not too promising, but considering TT probably signed him for next to nothing, it might be worth the gamble.
