There is a part of me that wants to flip the bird to 2005 and say, “Good riddance,” but another part of me thinks we should get a do-over. I’m pretty sure that if we gave it a second chance, 2005 could turn out okay. But I suppose that’s not likely to happen, so we’ll have to trudge through the darkness and make the best of it in 2006. And as if 2005 wasn’t bad enough, we have to endure an extra second of it tonight at 7pm EST because the Earth’s rotation is slowing down. That pesky conservation of energy that gets in the way all time. I’d suggest holding off on the leap second until next year. Who knows, maybe 2006 will be a wonderful year for everyone and we’ll really want to enjoy it for an extra second. Damn International Bureau of Weights and Measures. I’m sure this is all part of some kind of foreign plot.
Well, happy New Year’s to you and yours. See you next year.
We’re celebrating a big milestone here at Brats & Beer: this is the 100th post. Oh, we’ve come a long way since that very first post back in November. We were young and naive, full of spirit and energy. We still thought the Packers had a chance to turn it around and make the playoffs, the Badgers and Cyclones were driving toward conference titles, and Terrell Owens was still on Philadelphia’s active roster. Yes, those were simpler, happier times.
So, thanks to all those who have been reading and welcome to those who are new. Let’s all raise a toast to the past 100 posts and to at least 100 more to come.
Looks like the powers that be at ISU have decided to lift prohibition during Veishea. The annual Spring celebration has been a dry event since 1998 due to rioting and vandalism that has occasionally broken out and was cancelled this past year in response to a disturbance in 2004.
I know this might date me, but I was there are the first big Veishea riot in 1988. Oh, those were heady days when the people rose up and took to the streets in protest. Okay, maybe it was just a bunch of drunks that started a fire on Welch Ave., but it sure looked like something out of the history reels. What can I say, we Iowa Staters can’t help but set things on fire and bust out a few windows as soon as the weather turns nice.
Just a quick note to say Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I just love this holiday, an all day food and football feast. Second only to Christmas in my book. Despite everything, I am still thankful for the Green Bay Packers and I know they will rebound Sunday against Philly. Hope your holiday is a good one.
There is a story making the rounds on the Internet about a woman who lost her job for wearing a cheese-bra to a Packers game. It seems she was caught on camera sporting a faux cheddar brassiere that she had made from a foam football, and this was a Monday night game. Unfortunately, she worked for a dairy-free bakery company, so the next day she was fired for promoting a dairy product. Luckily, the single mom found a job at a local Ford dealership that appreciated her brand of personality.
Now, this story is being used to promote some Web site, so I’m not sure of the veracity of the tale. It seems fishy to me that someone could get fired in Wisconsin for attending a Packers game and even more suspicious that there would be a dairy-free bakery. But, it’s an amusing item nonetheless.
