Badgers Survive Back Alley Brawl » Brats & Beer

I’ll come right out and admit it: I suck at predicting games, especially when it comes to teams I root for. Of course it would help if I rooted for teams like the Indianapolis Colts because then I could predict victory every week and be right most of the time, but then I’d be a big jerk-face Colts fan and no one would like me. I should have known better, then, forecasting a UW blowout against San Diego State — it just seemed like it should have gone that way — but at least the Badgers did eventually manage to win a 14-0 decision against the Aztecs.

Who would have guessed that SDSU would put up such stiff resistance on road? Or maybe Wisconsin wasn’t feeling the love yesterday, I’m not sure. It sounded like John Stocco was really out of rhythm with his receivers early in the game; they are really going to need to work on that heading into the Big 10 opener next week. And no one can be too thrilled about the two failed fourth down conversions, one of them inside the SDSU 10-yard line. PJ Hill ran for 184 yards, but on those two plays the Badgers couldn’t get a stinking yard or two? That’s just not good. At least the UW defense came to play, allowing just one drive of more than 27 yards. Against Michigan on the road next week, the Badgers will need to be just as stout if they’re going to have any chance of winning in the Big House.
