Badgers & Packers: Worst Of The Best? » Brats & Beer

If you look at the standings of the Big 10 and the NFL, you’ll see that both the Wisconsin Badgers football team and the Green Bay Packers are undefeated and at the top of their respective leagues. Looking at the polls and power rankings, though, you’d think both were having just mediocre seasons so far.
The 4-0 Badgers are barely holding on to a spot in the top 10 due to the fact that they haven’t beaten anyone into the ground like Oklahoma or LSU has. Never mind the fact that UW has the longest winning streak in major college football stretching back 13 games, we only care about points, points, points. The 3-0 Packers, meanwhile, are consistently last among the five unbeaten NFL teams because no one thinks they’ve really proven themselves, despite the fact that all three of their wins have come against teams that were in the playoffs last year.
This weekend, Wisconsin will try to stretch their record to 5-0 with a win over Michigan State at the Camp Randall Love Motel. The Spartans are also undefeated but they have yet to play a Big 10 opponent, so this is a big test for both teams. For the Badgers to win they’ll have to clean up the turnovers that nearly cost them the game against Iowa, and the defense will need to step up their game to slow down a Spartan offense averaging 416 yards per game. I have every confidence UW will come out a winner, though it might still be a close game.
On Sunday the Packers try to run their record to 4-0 when they travel to the Triple H Dome in the Minnie Apple. The Vikes offense is running on fumes already so the only way the Packers can lose this game is if they shoot themselves in the foot. Ball control, positive yards, and just moving the chains is what they need to do to win, though a couple points scored by the defense would be a nice cherry on top.
I’m looking forward to a very good weekend.
