Badgers Almost Throw It Away » Brats & Beer
It sure was a good thing that I was at work today instead of home in front of my TV; there’s a very good chance a shoe or a beer bottle or some other object would have become lodged in the screen early in Wisconsin’s opening-round NCAA tournament game.
Fer crying out loud, how do you fall behind A&M Corpus Christi by 18 points? Who’s ever heard of A&M Corpus Christi; what are they the Fightin’ Flounder or something? Seriously, that game was verging towards being one of the most embarrassing upsets in recent NCAA history.
Luckily, though, the Badgers found their stroke in the second half, thanks to Kam Taylor draining threes and scoring 24 points for the game. Alando Tucker was right behind him with 23 points after a slow start, and Jason Bohannon got into double digits as well.
I thought maybe their terrible effort against Ohio State in the Big 10 finale would have been a wakeup call, and I guess I’m hoping the same thing after this experience, but this team is really starting to worry me. A great regular season, but when it really counts they seem to go to sleep or something.
Now I will say I partly blame ESPN for today’s trouble because they had some film crew following the team all day, which was probably a huge distraction. Hopefully Bo Ryan keeps any and all media away from his kids from now on.
So UNLV is up next on Sunday. The Rebels nearly got caught napping in the second half against Georgia Tech but took care of business to win 67-63. They were 29-6 over the regular season in the same conference with BYU and Air Force, so this is no time for the Badgers to be looking past an opponent.
