Badger Hockey Off To Fast Start » Brats & Beer

The hockey season is still quite young, but what a fast start for both the Wisconsin men’s and women’s teams.

The two-time NCAA champion Badger women’s team opened their season with six straight wins to extend their winning streak to a record 32 games before falling to St. Cloud State a couple weeks ago. Freshman Mallory Deluce is a big reason UW is playing so well: She earned consecutive rookie of the week honors this week and last after scoring a hat trick and adding an assist in a 5-0 win over St. Cloud. With their record now 6-1-1, the Badgers are tied for second place in the WCHA behind Minnesota Duluth and are #2 in both the top hockey polls.

The Badger men’s team, meanwhile, is off to a 3-1 start after sweeping Robert Morris at the Kohl Center last weekend. Freshman forward Kyle Turris earned offensive player of the week honors for his efforts: He leads the country with 12 points in the first four games, with five goals and seven assists.

The UW women’s team plays Minnesota State at home this weekend, while the men’s team gets a week off before playing Michigan Tech the first weekend of November.
