2008 March » Brats & Beer

March 16, 2008

We interrupt this sports blog with a post about music. The missus and I took in some of the free events this weekend at SXSW here in Austin. We didn’t have any brats but we did have some beer and saw some alright bands. The highlight of the weekend, though, was seeing The Breeders playing at […]

Random goodness from the Interwebs: Seattle weekly paper The Stranger has a recent restaurant review that contains the best line I’ve read describing one of my all-time favorite beers. Chris McCann writes, “My friend downed a traditional Wisconsin brew, Leinenkugel’s ($4), which had a rusty sweetness to it that recalled crisp, clear, football-studded October evenings.”
Nice.

The Journal Sentinel has a good piece today on Packers great Willie Wood. It’s sad to hear about players struggling in old age with health problems — especially dementia — but it’s good to hear that Wood is being taken care of. I also like the quote from Jerry Kramer: “Nitschke used to say he […]

The past couple days the pool of free agent quarterback “talent” shrank by two when Joey Harrington re-signed with the Falcons, the team that cut him a couple weeks ago, and David Carr got plucked off the street by the Giants. Thankfully now those two are off the market and we can’t stop worrying about […]

Early this morning it looks like defending Iditarod champion Lance Mackey pulled off back-to-back wins, but that doesn’t mean that The Last Great Race is over for the rest of the field.
Zoya DeNure, formerly of Madison, is still going strong and listed in 54th place. She left the checkpoint at Unalakleet about two o’clock this […]

If you’re interested to hear what Laura Ingraham had to say about Brett Favre, get over to the WTMJ web site and click the audio link.

Like a lot of other Packer fans, I’ve been doing much thinking the past week on how the Green Bay front office should proceed forward (or should that be Fourward?) into the post-Favre era. Aaron Rodgers of course will get first crack at becoming the next great Packers quarterback, but a lot of names have […]

At least we know that Brett Favre has something to do in his retirement, namely riding around in his new $9,000 golf cart.
The custom-built cart was built by Harris Golf Carts in Peosta, Iowa, and delivered by Scott Harris, who happens to be the cousin of Packers personnel analyst John Schneider. According to an article […]

Interesting article in the Journal Sentinel about New Glarus Brewing just south of Madison. Business has been pretty good for the craft brewery, so good in fact that the company is building a second brewery to keep up with demand. Last year New Glarus sold 65,000 barrels of beer, second to Leinenkugel’s (465,000 barrels) in […]

The shock of last week is slowly wearing off and the wake for Brett Favre’s career is almost over. The tributes have been handed out and now it’s time for the Packers and us fans to roll up our sleeves and get to the work at hand. But not before addressing a couple lingering […]
